Sandwich Topping No 1
PLEEF™ Patty
The ongoing question I get asked by non vegans is what does one put on a sandwich?
We are so used to putting meats and cheeses on our sandwiches that the task of eating a plant-based sandwich suddenly becomes tricky. The fact is you can put so many things on a sandwich, you just never thought of it. I will keep posting photos of my sandwich toppings so that you can just pick a flavour you like and re-create it. My staples in the fridge are: veganaise, sriracha sauce, dijon mustard, cucumber pickles, tomatoes, avocados, home made baked and de-skinned red pepper or a jar of store bought marinated red peppers, sun-dried tomatoes, olives, hummus, garlic dip, vegan cheese, kimchi, saurkraut and vegan burger patties. I make my own vegan patties and freeze them, see the recipe for the pleef™-burger here. Or you can buy some at the freezer section in your supermarket.
Vegan Patty

-
if you choose a patty for your sandwich it is easier (or simply just a tiny bit less messy) if it is not too thick
-
make your own or buy a packet of vegan patties and freeze them individually
-
making your own batch of patties means you can make fatter ones for a burger and thinner ones for sandwiches and then freeze and mark them accordingly
Toppings
-
warm up your patty either in the pan or microwave if it is cold or frozen
-
toast your gluten-free bread
-
I cover one slice of bread in dijon mustard
-
the other one in a 1:1 mix of veganaise and sriracha sauce
-
add your warm patty and cover it with slices of pickled cucumber and avocado
-
salt and pepper optional
-
you can add some cut up rocket too
Grab a Napkin :)
-
what makes this so good are the sauces, and lots of it
-
this however leads to an unavoidable mess
-
therefore a napkin is essential -
-
or just lick your fingers when no one is watching, it's that good!
